Review Fight of Flight by Natalie J. Damschroder

Eighteen years ago, a group of men killed Regan Miller’s boyfriend and tried to kidnap her daughter, Kelsey. Since then they have lived in hiding, always vigilant and never getting close to anyone.

When Kelsey goes away to college, Regan finally begins to relax. She even starts to think she can have a real relationship, perhaps with her flirtatious neighbor, Tyler Sloane. Then Regan is attacked again.

Desperate to get to her daughter, Regan accepts Tyler’s help-despite her suspicions about him. She knows nothing about Tyler but he knows a shocking amount about her past. Tyler can’t tell her what he knows or who he works for, but he insists she can’t face her enemies without him. Tired of living in fear, Regan is ready to take the offensive, with Tyler by her side. But is she relying too much on a man she can’t trust-and falling for him, too?

Fight or Flight was a helluva suspense novel. I was amazed by the suspense, the intense fighting, and the intense action scenes surprised me. This read like a James Bond, Ian Flemming novel, not like the romantic suspense novel’s I’m used to. The problem with Fight or Flight, that is that it DOES read like an Ian Flemming novel. The romance takes a complete backseat to the suspense of the story, and its a shame, because I would have liked for this novella to not seem as rushed as I felt it was.

Fight or Flight was amazingly intense and it was like 10lbs of action packed into a 2.5lb bag. Every other page was a fight, a shootout, a knife fight, an ambush, the action just kept coming and it was amazingly well written. The problem was there was no room for romance.

Fight or Flight had 2 great romance lines, running through them, and unfortunately we didn’t get to see either of them as much as I’d like. First Kelesy and Tom, the daughter and her football playing boyfriend’s romance is so freaking cute, its hot, its cute its amazing, I wanted to see SO much more of this. Then there is Tyler and Reagan’s romance, such as it was between kniffings, bullets, beatings, yelling, running away from each other, and so forth.

I wanted more emotional introspection, I wanted more relationship building, not just a couple of quick gropes between beatings and a BAM we’re married. I wanted more from these relationships; Fight of Flight should have been a full length novel, someone at some point should have said, this is full length, not novella. However with that being said Fight or Flight is first class entertainment.
