Romance, Its not just for the Sex Week 1: Scottish History 1
SO this week, well all this month on Romance, Its not just for the Sex, I am going is not just one book but a series that taught me a ton about Scottish history and the way the scottish and english feudal systems worked and fought and worked with and subverting each other in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Jude Deveraux’s work in the Highland Velvet series, showed the changes in a family as they went through and traveled between English estates and Scottish glens as the build up to another scottish revolution occured. We were able to see key members in history interacting with the members of parliament, and the English created scottish government which was really just a series of puppets and royal hangers, on as well as the true Scottish leaders, clan leaders, both historical and fictional, meet in actual historical cirucmstances, discuss overthrowing the government and the logistics of war and fighting their own.
A fantastically engaging series that is NOT suitable for anyone under 13, due to mature subject matter, it gives the reader living insight into what was one of the most interesting series of contstant battles and revoultions in history, and we are lucky because there is no shortage of great Scottish romances that also illustrate and cover with clarity and historical accuracy what was occuring in the region at that time.
