Review Slade by Sarah McCarty
Slade needs a cure, but what he finds is a savior in the latest paranormal romance from the national bestselling author.
As the backbone of The Renegades’ defense, vampire technological genius Slade Johnson hasn’t met a problem he couldn’t solve. But when Slade is tasked with saving the life of his nephew, he must get in bed with the one woman who has the power to destroy them all: his enemy…his mate.
As you all know I’m a HUGE fan of the Western. Whats better than a cowboy. I’m also a huge fan of the futuristic Western, a cowboy that shoots LASERS?? Like tripple awesome. BUT only when its done well. And by well I mean without me going WHAT THE F###K Just happened every 3 paragraphs.
I have a feeling this could have been a life-changinly good futuristic western. (Not really but hyperbole is kind of my thing so suck it up and die). Except there were SO MANY points I just kept going WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED that I kept flipping back and forth in the book trying to figure it out.
Even with that though this was one of the most Fast paced, detailed, emotional, LIKEABLE futuristic paranormal western’s (never thought I’d write that sentence), I’ve read. Most of the others have been just full of come off it. Total jokes and Ms. McCarty’s was well, a real book. With a plot and character development and stuff.
You dont’ get that from the cover or the blurb but this is a real book. Slade is overworked and yet under appreciated. He’s the backbone of their entire operational resistance and yet he gets shit on and Jane is the only one that sees it. She’s also the only one willing to stand up for him and for the fact that even in a resistance you can still resist that overlord too. That trading one evil master for another is not choice.
I also liked the fact that she wasn’t afraid to use the sick kid as a bargaining tool. Hey if you kidnap me and make me work for you even if i think its the right thing, I’m going to set some stipulations on the stuff just so I can feel like i have some power in the situation as well.
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable novel inventive interesting idea. A good take on the genre, and an excellent addition to the series.
Overall Rating: B-
